2008 WHEN World Health Assembly 2009
WHEN BRIEFING/WORKSHOP |
This unique event brought WHEN members together with leading global health experts who were gathered in Geneva for the World Health Assembly (WHA) (19-24 May 2008) and the biennial World Health Professions Alliance (WHPA) meeting (17-18 May 2008). The event offered an early look at global health news stories related to the WHA and WHPA (see here) resolutions and actions. We focused on identifying key global health trends, emerging technologies and newsworthy events that might inform journal editorial planning and provide useful “news hooks” over the next 12 months. Additionally, the workshop gave participating editors an opportunity for inter-professional exchange/dialogue on priority issues and a chance to explore the approaches different journals are adopting to make global health news relevant to their readership. As in most WHEN meetings, there was lively information sharing among the participants, with discussion on current projects and strategies. There was sucessful networking, which in some cases introduced near neighbours to each other from the other side of the world, who had not met until this WHEN meeting.
Health leaders and experts from many governmental, NGO, private sector and international agencies were also invited to the meeting. WHCA also produced an "unofficial guide" to the World Health Assembly for participants. This can be downloaded here (PDF file, 841 KB). |
On this page a selection of the PowerPoint presentations, along with video clips of comments and statements from the presenters, are available for viewing and download. The full report of the meeting is available here. |
